Elie Cohen, director of research at the National Center for Scientific Research, believes the "No" vote on the European Union Constitution by French voters was "an earthquake, a major historical event." Cohen believes this vote sent a terrifying message from a nation whose political scene is in disarray.
Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister, said the French No vote was a symptom of the fact that some European countries are struggling to come to terms with globalization.
The new EU treaty requires unanimous ratification by all 25 member-states, and any further French vote is unlikely before their presidential elections in 2007. Thus the EU will shelf its proposed constitution for several years - a major blow to the United States of Europe.
Many future holders of the presidency of the EU - like Germany and Portugal - have said that during their terms, the EU Constitution will be revived. Germany takes control in the first half of 2007, and Portugal the second half.
Despite the people's rejection of the EU Constitution, Rob Congdon reports that the European Commission is basically acting as though the Constitution was in place. They are enforcing laws that, in reality, they have no right to enforce.
The reject of the EU Constitution by 2 of the 25 needed countries does put a serious hinderance on the goal of a United Europe. But proponents of the Constitution are willing to wait and try again- seemingly until they get the answer they want.
Jimmy's Prophetic Prospective on the News
The failure of French voters to ratify the European Union Constitution was a major blow to the EU's plans for power. But it was only a hiccup for the scenario for the Revived Roman Empire as it relates to Bible prophecy.
French President Jacques Chirac has accepted the voters' "sovereign decision," but said that it has created "a difficult context for the defense of [French] interests in Europe."
Some of the European media has reported that the "No" vote was a severe, perhaps fatal blow to the EU Constitution. It is for sure that the French people have put the EU in turmoil and caused a setback for the establishment of a powerful political-economic block of European states.
That said, the Bible reveals that there will be, someday, sooner rather than later, a United States of Europe to fulfill the scenario found in Daniel's prophecies for the Last Days.
Daniel 7:7-8, 23-24 is the prediction of a Revived Roman Empire in place in the Last Days. Though the EU may not be the actual fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy, it is surely the infrastructure for that coming Empire. Bible prophecy will indeed be fulfilled.
